چکیده

This paper reports “first cut” of the design of a distributed and object oriented geographic information system, DO-GIS, under development at I.I.T. Delhi. The paper deals with data model, architecture, query processing and data management in a GIS. Considering that geographical data includes information about spatial reference frame, topological connections and requires maintenance of physically distributed spatial data, we argue that a distributed and object oriented GIS is the most natural choice for both data processing and management. The distribution of data (over a set of sites) has implications on the query processing, i.e. it requires query partitioning and distributed processing. DO-GIS architecture employs meta database and order preserving protocols to make both the distributed query processing and subsequent collation of partial results totally transparent to the user. Overall the operation is in the spirit of co-operative computing paradigm.

Client-server Components and Metadata Objects for Distributed Geographic Information Services

The need for global access and decentralized management of geographic information is pushing the GIS community to establish an open GIS architecture and provide distributed geographic information services. From an operational perspective, the role of client/server components underlie specification of task-oriented programming, and the modularization of GIS software. Exchange of geographic infor...

ساختار دهی آنی داده‌‌های مکانی ورودی GIS با تأکید بر عارضه راه

An important issue in implementation of a GIS system is preparation of data to be entered in GIS. To produce spatial data for GIS using photogrammetric techniques, conventional method is to apply photogrammetric and GIS systems individually (off-line procedure). This approach is costly, time consuming and somehow unreliable due to the fact that 3D photogrammetric model is not available at the ...

A CORBA Object-Oriented Architecture to Provide Distributed GPS data to GIS applications

This paper shows a distributed object-oriented architecture to provide GPS data to GIS applications. Data captured in real time by GPS units are sent via radio to the computer. Several sources of this real data in addition to simulated GPS data are distributed in a computer network. These servers of GPS data can be accessed by distributed client applications. A CORBA based infrastructure provid...

Research on Object-Oriented Geographical Data Model in GIS

Nowadays, there are many attempts to establish object-oriented GIS in some software However, they are not accordant to object-oriented concept whole and systematically in the whole course from the process of cognizing and abstracting geographical space to the process of defining and describing GIS data model then to the process of analyzing and designing GIS. Especially, the research on common ...

Implementation of Object - oriented GIS Data Model with Topological Relations between Spatial Objects

 Traditional GIS (Geographical Information System) data models are focused on the description of the data organizational structure and constraints from single aspect, which are the absence or little relevance of the hierarchy and connotation of data objects. These data models do not match the natural concept of humans about geographical spatial data and also failed to fully consider the spatia...
